So I've started this new "lifestyle" change and I have been noticing a big difference. This is my issue: I have a co-worker who has started a similar routine. She has only started about a month ago whereas I am going on my 3rd month. She has yet to incorporate exercise in her routine while I have been busting my big butt for 4 days a week; 1 hour a day for the last 3 months. She's obviously bigger and heavier than me but I don't know if that's because she just has a bigger frame. I would guess she's about 5'9" and about 230 lbs. I'm 5'2" and 185. She has already lost 12 pounds and I've only lost 5!! What's going on?? It's making me discouraged. Whereas I do see a difference because of my exercise I don't see it in the scale. I'm getting desperate and starting to skip meals and have "liquid days" where I don't eat anything all day but instead drink liquids and eliminating carbs all together. I know this isn't healthy or right, but I don't know what else to do? Anyone?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
If your scales can measure body fat percentage then keep an eye on that. Sometimes the weight stays the same but you could have GAINED MUSCLE and DROPPED FAT PERCENTAGE - that is really important when getting healthy. Remember that muscle itself burns calories, so the more muscle you have the more calories you'll burn just sitting on your butt!
The other thing to remember is that you need to eat enough so that your body will burn fat and not muscle. When we don't eat enough (usually because we want to see a drop on the scales) our bodies hold on to fat and burn up muscle. This is NOT good, so make sure you eat enough. Also, try measuring yourself. An inch lost on your waist may not show on your scales but its a hell of an achievement.
Try not to compare yourself to your friend. She is losing weight but YOU are losing weight AND getting fit and healthy.

You need to be eating a little something every 2.5 to 3 hours! Calculate how much you should be eating for your weight and then cut off maybe 500 from that number.
Say it comes out to 2700 - then cut back to 2200.
Now exactly what are you eating? Be sure to cut out all the 'whites' in your diet, eat plenty of good protein, fruits and veggies. You know, cutting out all carbs is kinda bad and kinda impossible; I am not sure what you expected to accomplish be doing that.
What about water? How much are you drinking? You should be drinking half your current weight in ounces of water. Water assists a great deal with weight loss.
Speaking of water, a person can lose more by water loss and sadly also muscle mass.
Now exercise - what kind of exercise are you doing? Cardio is extremely important as is resistance training and weights.
I seldom use the scale to judge my weight loss because muscle weighs much more than fat. Pay attention to how your clothes are fitting not what's happening with the little dial on a scale.
Cardio should be done at least 3-5 times a week for a minimum of 35-45 min - you need to get that heart rate up and get a good sweat going. It does not matter how you get there, just pick a method you enjoy or even use many and just alternate them. You need to burn that fat off and build up your muscle because muscle truly does burn more calories than fat. Fat just hangs around and fills space LOL.
What are your goals? How are you feeling when you exercise? How are your clothes fitting now? How is your sleeping?
Your goal may well be to lose weight and get to a certain number but ultimately, your goal should truly be to become healthier. That's a much better interim goal.
Comparing yourself to others is not the best way to meet your goals. Everyone has a different body composition and their methods may be slightly different. If another person has lost alot of water, their numbers would be lower but they would not be healthier.
Stick to healthy food in proper portions, regular exercise, plenty of water and good solid sleep each nite and you will reach your own personal best level of health and weight when your body feels like it.
