Hi everyone, I am new here because I need to know if anyone has experienced the same frustrations as me as a person continually trying to lose weight!
My main problem is this,
I have been on the south beach diet, lost about 13 lbs an decided to step it up the next four weeks to lose weight before a cruise. I started walking and strength training and all weight loss has stopped. I know the usual answer is that I am gaining muscle and losing fat, but I have only been working out for a week now and I usually lose about 3-5 lbs in a week on S.B. diet. This week I am up 2 lbs ( Thanksgiving can take some credit for that however). Basically I am finding that I stop losing weight when I start exercising.
Recently I have read that exercise does not have an effect on the scale at all, but it is possible that it has a negative effect on my weight loss?
Should I stop working out and just continue to diet?
I want to lose 15 lbs in a month, which I have done before, but now I can't seem to do it-even with strict diet and continuous exercise.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Mike- I did decide that I am going to keep working out and just keep an eye on my clothes fitting more loosely, so thanks for that!
Wag- I am actually not on a very low calorie diet, I am watching calories and trying to keep it from 1000 to 1500 but I don't think that is too low. Maybe I am wrong though, I know you can not avoid eating and exercise and expect your body to respond well so I make sure I eat enough protien and lots and lots of veggies and water. I also eat about 5-6 times a day. The diet I am on is basically eating as much good foods as I want (lean meats + veggies), I am staying away from hi GI foods and carbs for most of the week, but I allow some on weekends (whole grains).
I figured this would be sufficient for continuing an exercise routine, what do you think? Still not enough?
I want to lose some wieght for the cruise becuase I have recently had the realization that it it nearly Christmas and the clothes I have that I would bring on the cruise either look terrible on me becuase of my weight, or they just plain don't fit! It's either I lose the weight or I have to buy new clothes (which I can't afford this time of year!) So I am planning to push myself to lose and make a healthy lifestyle change in the process.
I have struggled for years with my weight. I use to work out 6 days a week and eat almost nothing. If you saw me you wouldnt know it. I was still overweight. After a while I finally went to my dr. Nothing physically wrong with me. so....what the heck...why am I not losing? It really came down to making sure I eat. Skipping meals, taking diet pills, etc was the worse mistake I ever made. I now do weight watchers. I learned alot about myself, my habits etc. It seems to be the only thing I've tried that has honestly helped me.
