I got clean and sober on the 15th of October. Well, one of the things I felt I needed to do was make amends to my Pain Clinic doctor. I was all anxious, but very eager to make things right.
Well, when the doctor walked in with the nurse he said "they were in suspense as to why I wanted to see them." I was honestly surprised. But, I was even MORE FLOORED when I told him I was an addict and that I had picked up my chips and that I wanted to apologize to him for taking advantage of him, and he looked at me like I had three heads. He started comparing addiction to diabetics needing their insulin, etc. etc. etc. He genuinely did NOT GET IT!! And he is a Pain Clinic doc! He, OF ALL THE DOCS, should have some kind of clue about addiction. He asked me if I had ever taken the medication to a point where I could not work or take care of my family or function. I said no. That's not the point doc. I am an addict. He did ask me if I had ever taken it and not really needed it. I said yes, and he did say "now that's a problem." Well, duh!
I asked him if there was some kind of non-narcotic pain medicine he could prescribe for me and he gave me Tramadol and Toradol. The tramadol works great!!! I am so happy to say.
But, I am still shaking my head about this experiense. Have any of you guys run into this type of thing?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Second of all .. sounds like you blew your doctor out of the water and he didn't know how to react to it .. so he reacted in an asshole way. excuse my french. had plenty of doctors that I've dealt with was like that.
don't sweat it .. you were big enough to say your sorry to him .. now don't worry bout it even if he's ignorant to you.
again .. I applaud to you being sober!! good luck!!
I dont understand why they cant accept the fact that they need to monitor what drug they give you and why you are taking them. My mom was good at getting them to give them to her. Yes, she was part of the problem. However, I would think that if a dr was reviewing his patients chart he would see how much and all the stuff they were feeding her. I can honestly say I think her getting off the most of the medications is what weakened her heart and caused her to die. I pray you get the help you need.
I know I have had the same dr for years and they completely dont listen sometimes when you have a legitmate concern.
