Avoid fried foods.. get steamed white or brown rice instead of fried rice.. if you get dumplings, steamed instead of fried, basically get everything steamed instead of fried! :)
Some chinese menus even have a "light" food section.. if yours doesn't, just try to make sense of the menu.. if you're getting shrimp or chicken, try to get dishes where the meat is unbreaded and not fried.
My chinese place has an excellent shrimp & eggplant in garlic sauce dish that probably contains way too much sugar.. but isn't fried at all. We also like the hunan chicken.. also probably has too much sugar in the sauce, but the chicken is unbreaded and there's lots of veggies in there.
