My dad's kidneys failed last month. He came home from Sudbury last weekend, and surgery for his artificial kidney (PD) is scheduled in October, and he is on a transplant list.I took him in to see the Dr. today. Dad is trying to stay positive, but the doc pounced all over him about how serious this is. We know how serious, and he is following the Dr.'s instructions to the letter. What can my dad expect in October, how will this work (I already looked at DaVita videos), and which of the four options work the best? My dad doesn't know how to use a computer - so I am doing this for him. We live in a small, remote northern community, so we don't have access to things as you would in a city. Internet is the best - but talk about overwhelming information. I found info that says dad may only get another 4-5 years between the dialysis, and tranplants aren't much better. I see on here people with failed kidneys have done well - so I'd really like to hear from people that have beaten the odds.
