Dialysis Support Group
Dialysis is a type of renal replacement therapy which is used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function due to renal failure. It is a life support treatment and does not treat any kidney diseases. Dialysis may be used for very sick patients who have suddenly lost their kidney function or for quite stable patients who have permanently lost their kidney...

Hello and good afternoon. I'm not sure how abnormal this might be, as I've never done it before, but I am here to ask help for a friend.
My name is April Hendryx, I am here actually for my mother, Beverly's friend. They used to drive a semi together and have just recently split up for different paths.
Sherry is that friend. I do not know what her diagnosis is, I only know that she's having a very very rough time at the moment. She used to drive a shuttle service for dialysis patients and has seen many people suffer through treatments.
Now she is in a situation where she may lose a kidney due to cysts growing on both of her kidneys. She has had surgery to remove cysts on one kidney, but was recently seen for pains she couldn't take anymore. They told her that she would have to have the liquid removed from the cysts to see if they stay drained. If they do not and fill up again, they want to remove her kidney. They told her to get a second opinion at the university hospital near her home, that works with the Mayo (sp?) Clinic. This is good news for her because if there is another option out there, hopefully they will be able to help.
However, Sherry is in very VERY low spirits. She has made some very sad comments to my Mom that has her worried. My mom asked me to come here and see if there was a way to send her some support from people who've been there. Sherry is scared to have to go through treatments. She's even more afraid it will only help for so long before its pointless.
I have no experience with this procedure or the outcome stats for most patients. My Mom also has no words of encouragement to give her and has cried not knowing what to say. If there is anyone out there who thinks they might be able to help, please do let me know. I also hope that I haven't offended anyone by stating what I do know and do not know.
Thank you very much for your time,
April

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
but i would first try to tell her all the positive things so she does not spend time thinking about the negative things. It can be very tough in the beginning Its great that you are going out of your way to find facts about patients who are on Dialysis. The most important thing that I tell everyone who starts on Dialysis is educating yourself about the Diet and treatment, Diet plays a very big part in living with kidney failure.
Again try to support her and educate her about ESRD so she can learn to accept it and so she can continue with her life.Any question just ask.
I'll keep checking back and let you know how she's doing. I'd like to send her an invitation to the site also, I will be trying to get her email address.
Thank you again!
when i was first diagnosed i was terribly depressed and thought my life was over, but i still work full time as a reporter photographer for a daily newspaper and I have a 9-year-old beautiful daughter, which is in my icon photograph.
dialysis is not a death sentence, it is a means of keeping people alive. since the start i've tried to keep upbeat and i'm on the list for a transplant. i even have a live donor, a fellow reporter, who is willing to give me a kidney and she's the right blood type.
there's always a reason to keep trying, to be strong, and to believe that each day is a blessing. the difference is, we folks on dialysis earn each of our days. it's up to us to appreciate them. I hope you can cheer your friend up. there's reason for it. george white
