Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Hi Everyone!
A little background information, my Father's side of the family, not all but several of them had or have diabetes. When I was Dx in September I thought my world had collaped, but alas, it did not. I knew not to eat all the white pastas, white rices, etc. but didn't know too much else. Numbers were 239 for BS and 10.9 for A1C. Way too high! I was already a memeber of Weight Watchers, lost a pound here half a pound there, etc. So, when this Dx came along I decided to take the bull by the horns and make it work for me. In six weeks BS dropped to 97 and A1C dropped to 7.9. Then Thanksgiving came, found a diabetic pecan pie recipe, wasn't too bad at all. Christmas came, partly not so good, otherwise okay. Total weight loss from September 27 to January 17 is drumroll please......druuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm rolllllllllllllllllllllllll
42 pounds!
Whole wheat pastas, brown rice, sweet potatoes, fish, chicken, red potatoes and white potatoes once in a while, and lots and lots of veggies.
I'm on Metformin 1000 mg per day, hope to soon be off of it and control this with diet. I've made it this far I can make it the whole wheat way! Also Dx with Hypothyroidism and that' s under control too.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
GREAT WORK on the weight loss!!! Yea!!!!

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cups pecan halves
1 (9 inch) unbaked pastry shell
..
DIRECTIONS
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.Combine eggs, SPLENDA Brown Sugar Blend, corn syrup, butter and vanilla, mixing until blended; stir in pecan halves. Pour filling into pastry shell.
3.Bake for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near center comes out clean.
4.Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm.
I'll write more in a little while!
Thanks for all the good support and good wishes
