I was diagnosed with Type II a couple months ago. I have been thru classes and nutrition counseling, but I still have problems coming up with meals that fit within the diet. Seems like if something is low fat, it is high in carbs, sodium, etc. I found a website that had meals planned for 30 days and thought that would be really helpful. Well, their menus had things like baked fish (icky) steak, cornish game hens, scallops, shrimp, tuna steak, poached salmon steaks, red snapper, fruits like papaya, mango, and kiwi, etc. Who eats like that except Donald Trump and Bill Gates? lol Not on my budget I can't eat like that.
Anyone know of a meal planner that uses "real foods"?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
1. Keep it really simple.
2. I stick with whole grains. Minimal amounts of oil. LOTS and lots of fruit and vegetables... steamed or raw. For protein, I opt for soy products & beans. I don't worry about calories. If I stick to these foods, they really don't lend themselves to binging or overeating. And even if I do... what would be the harm in too much broccoli?
3. I exercise six to seven days a week. My favorite is to walk. I spent a minimum of 30 minutes each session. But mostly, I do 60-90 minutes per day.
4. Read and learn all I can. There are numerous sources for free recipes. Just about any thing geared to heart health also works for a folks with diabetes.
5. Be patient. It takes quite a while to feel comfortable with this new lifestyle.

All that has changed. I am using recipes my friend that is on Weight Watcher uses. I got several of their books at the library to start with. I even have desserts that taste realy good on somedays.
Lilyhiker's suggestion are realy good. The bigest thing for me is to keep a routine. If I take my bs at about the same time, it helps me to also eat on a schedule.
I need help with the exersise routine though. Maybe you can give me some suggestions. Okiegirl
