Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

I have type 2 diabetes, on insulin, my fbs is anywhere from 180 to 250. I know its high, my a1c is 8.3, my problem is I have 3 kids, a healthy HUNGRY husband. I have to cook for them, things I cannot eat becaause they dont want to eat like I do, and I dont blame them. My problem is its hard to separate what I eat from theirs, I mean its so tempting. I also get very hungry at night, I cant sleep im so hungry so I will eat a little something and its causing high fbs. My sugars are never low no matter what I eat. But with a BIG family to cook for how can I avoid eating what I am not supposed to? Does anyone have this problem?
m? What can I eat that wont run my bs up???

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
On an evening when you eat "a little something" what kind of things are we talking?
Try setting yourself up with "ready" crunchies in the fridge. cut up veggies/fruits for grabbing.
Figure out all the low carb favorite meals and make meal plans ahead.
Keep a glass of ice water to grab and drink while you're cooking. ( or sugarfree koolaid)
snacks that can balance easily would be something like 4 crackers with thinly sliced cheese or a small amount of peanutbutter before bed.
You could also slice an apple and dip it in peanutbutter. ( I like to use tahini with a a teaspoon of peanutbutter. It's very high protein and keeps the PB flavor. Thins it out to a great dip.)
I hope this helps you.

In June of this year I changed doctors I now see an endocrinologist. I still hear his words: Its diet, diet, diet and exercise. We are what we eat and I have been doing this for 16 years. I now take Byetta and have been able to loose 28 pounds. The Byetta controls my carb cravings. Please I still have to watch the carb consumption. My doctor also tweak my meds, I take 5mg of Glipizide 2x a day, Meformin 1000mg 2x day after lunch and dinner, Byetta 10mcg before breakfast and dinner. My FSB is now 97 to 120 in the morning coming down from 180 to 220.
Since your doctor has you on the insulin check to see if you could do Smyilin which is similar to Byetta but it for insulin users.
The Byetta slows down our digestion.
Don't give up!
Have 1/2 cup skim or 1% mild and a couple of crackers with about a tbsp of peanut butter before bed.
OK I never drink milk - don't like it and it sends my levels up. I do drink water and diet drinks. For nibbles if you can't eat raw veg can you eat cooked? Put extra on and store them in the fridge for later. How about nuts? Especially almonds. Peanuts are a little questionable though.
I sometimes make some fudge balls which are very yummy and filling. They have almond, coconut, tahini paste, protein powder and cocoa with Spenda and vanilla to sweeten. I can give you the recipe if you think that it might be OK for you. I know what you mean about eating something one day and it's fine and the next it give problems. My DH has the problem with quite a few things. Between that and my diabetes it does make life rather interesting and challenging to cook each day......
