OH MY GOODNESS, I thought it was costly when just one of us needed monitor strips but now that we both need them, is there anything we can do to get them cheaper?

deleted_user
Ask your pharmacist which strips are cheapest. You may have to buy the monitor that goes with the strips, but in the long run it may be a lot cheaper.

MamabearS... I know here in British Columbia, Canada I once went to the Diabetic clinic at the hospital and they gave me a container of fifty. I've also heard of a chap buying them off the internet quite cheap... I will try to find out where he bought them from 'kay... MzKatharin

I switched insurances & they wouldn't cover strips for my meter so my doc gave me a new one free. I never bought a meter I had 4 so far. I didn't have insurance for awhile n got meters free

Look at the meters that you like and contact that manufacture. Sometimes they will send one for free. One Touch is giving away free ones at their site as of yesterday when I was surfing the net. Try Bayer also. Go to the Health Dept and explain your need; they also maybe able to help with a monitor and strips.

I started out with a One Touch Ultra. The strips got to be pretty expensive though. So I got a ReliOn, which is WalMart's brand. The meters are under ten dollars and the strips are about 22 dollars for a pack of 50. I've never had any issues with mine and I find it to be pretty accurate.

The cheapest I have found has been Walmarts brand. The meter seems accurate. And the strips are fairly cheap in comparison with everything else.

My insurance company has a program called "Advantage". I joined, they call me every 3 months and talk to me about diet, blood sugar, exercise, etc. About a 10 minute call. Because I do this, I get all my supplies free..strips, meters, swabs, testing solution.. anything I need. Check with your insurance carrier and see if they subscribe to this service.

http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com Great site for lowest price strips. No insurance you can get them free like me. Abbott has a program for people without insurance and you can find great deals with medicare from bayer. I love the Asentia Breeze 2 10 strips per load. Bayer gives away meters to anyone who needs them and one 50 pack vial per person per year. I had to find the cheapest, because in the beginning I was testing 6-8 times a day. Now I test only twice a day. Hope that helps

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
