I have had 'bad patches' on and off through out my adult life (I'm 26 now) and after a few years of being quite steady, I've suddenly plunged back into the darkness.
I am finding this sadness very confronting, because I have recently started a new job, which I love even though it can be stressful and demanding and for all intensive purposes, I should be happy.
The biggest concern for me at the moment is my weight- I've put on over 10 kilos since I started my job 5 months ago, and I can't find the motivation to shake it.
I've always been able to lose weight when I've put my mind to it, but my spurts of inspiration only last for small periods of time, and fade away to sadness so easily that it's scary.
I drive a lot with my new job, and sometimes I find myself thinking about what would happen if I drove into the on-coming traffic.
I don't want to die, and I've never thought seriously about harming myself, but I can't help the 'what if'.
I have great friends, but I'm very lonely. I have a great family, but I don't feel connected.
I don't feel as though I need medication, but I'm not a doctor, so I suppose it's possible that I do.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Good luck!
A medical check up is always a good idea. Sometimes very simple medical issues can also trigger a depression. for example, a wonky thyroid can throw anyone for a loop and its can be quickly checked with a blood test.
I'm a little concerned about your thoughts while driving, I hope you can speak with a doc soon about what you are experiencing.
Good luck
