i dont know if they have such things as crisis teams in what ever country ur in but if you turn up to the hospital saying you want to either hurt or kill yourself they have to refer you to see the psychratiric team who will assess you and see what help they can give you.

for us in the uk they get you to see the crisis team then they arrange to come visist you at your home daily and try to keep you out of hospital that way but still suporting you.

please do go to the hospital next time you feel like hurting yourself uve really nothing to loose.x

I had to go in the hospital and it was the hardest thing I ever did and the scariest. My boyfriend took me. He was afraid for me. As it turned out, it was the scariest and best four days of my life. I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't want to go back to that. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do in order to get better.

Thank you so much for your replies. I was going to go yesterday but I felt better after cutting. I felt like I should go this afternoon but I felt better after my wife took me to lunch and I spoke with some co-workers. I ended up cutting again about an hour ago and I don't want to go to the Hospital. It makes me want to cry. I work for the Hospital and I'm afraid everyone will find out in my department or elsewhere. I'm also scared of the questions they will ask. I don't want to talk about anything other than with my psychologist / psychiatrist, but I don't think I can make it like this until my next appointment which is a week from tomorrow :(

The most important benefits of going to the hospital are that they can monitor you, and you can get away from everyday life for a while. When they watch you, there is no chance that you will hurt yourself, which takes that stress away. Being removed from the problems of everyday life is self explanitory.

What can the hospital do for you? They can keep you safe from cutting while they try to find meds that work for you. It's a sweet deal. I hope you decide to go for the help, cutting really isn't fun and you don't have to suffer like this. Good Luck.

I am so sorry with all the people around you that you feel it necessary to hurt yourself by cutting. I hope they find some meds that works and help stop whatever is causing you to feel this need.

I used to work at a hospital like you and yes everyone will find out if the hospital staff is anything like mine. My experience is that In my state, it is called a TDO (green warrant) and if your mental health team deems necessary, the police will be at your front door and take you willing or not to the hospital. At that point, they will hold you for 72 hours. Sorry to be a downer but this is what happens here. I worked in the ER for seven years and saw it everyday.
