Hello everyone,
I have just returned from taking a family member to the Dr's Office. As I sat in the waiting room I read a very interesting article in one of those out dated magazines about a new treatment for depression. Having suffered from depression for my entire life, I quite naturally went directly to "Google" to learn more about it. For whatever reason, I was directed to "Daily Strength". So I figured why not share my experience with everyone here ?
I'm now just over 50, but believe me, I still hold out hope for a better, more fulfilling, and happier life. Yes I know the pain of depression ..and anxiety...I have been there and back. But tonight I have a glimmer of hope.
The treatement which I read about is called Theraputic Lifestyle Change for Depression or TLC. In a nutshell the treatment calls for aerobic excercise, increased sleep, using Omega 3 oils, light therapy, and social interaction.
Interestingly, after work today I did a long walk/jog in the park even though I felt exhausted (as usual) from work. I felt great when I got home.
I plan to learn more about this treatment and day by day make it part of my life. If I sense any interest at all in this group I'll report in with progress. I'd love to have someone or a group join in with me. Maybe we could support one another. It's worth a try !

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I'm really not sure exactly what light therapy is ...I figure it's exposure to some specific kind of light during the winter months. I know for sure I love to see the sun. But I'll find out more about it and report back.

Light therapy is more used for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), that is people who are affected by not having enough sunlight - common with the long winter months.
Finally Social interaction is imperative - we are social animals after all - but make it positive - find friends who bouy you up and make you laugh.
Of course you could combine the whole lot by playing beach volleyball ;-)
