when i feel down or depressed...i have the tendency to splurge all my money, whether it's money i have (savings/checkings) or money i don't (credit)...
does anyone else have this same "problem"? i feel like i've dug myself a hole. the stupidest thing i can really recall is going out and spending $100 on eight fish that aren't even spectacular. three of them died within the first week...
but, yeah. does anyone else spend money like crazy when they don't feel "up"?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I'm a sure loser! :)
I need a financial advisor or something, or maybe just another way to deal with my down moments.
I do a few things that help me curb it;
1-I try to not carry my credit cards with me (or I carry only cash)
2-I call my hubby and tell him what I want to buy
3-I look at what it is I want and make a mental note of it then make myself wait 24 hours before purchasing it
4-I have this saying up where I can see it and I try to live by it, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or DO WITH OUT!"
I literally have to force myself to sit down twice a month to pay them. I didn't do it a couple of days ago and low and behold I didn't pay something on time and got smacked with a $15 late fee.
On the wall next to my computer I have a white board with all of my bills written on it, the amount due, date due, amount paid and date paid. I just started doing it that way. I have a budget worksheet on the computer but I found that I wasn't opening it.
I forgot about something else I do that helps me not spend, I toss in $5-20 a paycheck for the hubby and I for "mad money". That way if I want to meet my best friend for coffee, he wants to go grab a beer with his friend or whatever it's there. I do the same with my spare change at the end of the day-I might use it for coffee, or give to the kids for rewards of helping out etc etc.
I still wish God would let me win the lottery so I could prove to him that it wouldn't spoil me, LOL!
I'm awful about it! I can spend thousands in a day. (I've spent as much as $6000 in one day before.) I didn't realize it until I got here, that it was a manic sorta thing. Now I'm even more depressed!
Well, thats not right either, hubbys ck was just deposited yday but after i pay the bills the $$$$ will be gone anyhow
I ended up having to go to a credit councelor and get on a payment schedule to repay everything. It took 4 years and I swore I'd never do it again. That was 15 years ago. Somehow I got started one day this year and now I'm getting things paid off, again.
(this time, a smaller amount) So, I've cut up cards and put myself on a repayment schedule. In a year, I'll be OK, but it's going to be a 'no-frills' year. No vacations, road trips or unnecessary clothing, etc. I'll learn, sooner or later! You're not alone.
yes. but am getting better... i went to costco and only spent $48 bucks! i would call that an improvement in my checkbook!
