Ok so I stumbled upon this site thinking it seemed liked a good place to let things out and get support. But the thing is I have to be honest I have not been diagnosed with depression. I honestly don't know if have depression or just sever mood swings. So I guess my question is how did/do you know if you have a problem you can't fix on your own? Do you ever think you just need to cheer up and move on? No disrespect I do believe depression is a disease but how do you know?

If you have these mood swings please have an appointment with your doctor and talk to them about it.
You can find resources and tests online that will help you identify possible symptoms you have that may be caused by depression. If you fill one out and bring it with you to your doctor, you can start figuring out if you suffer from depression that way.
Beware of taking an anti-depressant only w/o a mood stabilizer if you are bipolar it could throw you into mania.
