Ive just been reading some stuff on the net about prozac based meds ( which is what my doc has prescribed me ) and a lot of people have said that they had awful withdrawal when trying to come off them. Suicidal thoughts etc which they never had before taking them. Im wondering if its worth taking them? I dont want to get any worse than I am. Surely, theyre meant to help you...not make you at risk of suicide etc?
Has anyone had any really bad side effects from taking it?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Yes. During the first 2 weeks I got a massive surge on ANXIETY, ironically that is due to the "energizing" effects of the chemicals.
I was feeling really down and facing several blows in my life at that time, so I was a bit suicidal already. The prozac-induced anxiety made this feeling worse.
The GOOD NEWS is that this anxiety side-effect went away after 4-6 weeks.
Prozac also induced INSOMIA on me. Again, this is a direct result of the "invigorating" effect the chemical has on mind activity. I had to take TEMAZEPAN to help me to sleep and came out of it gradually.
I took prozac for 2 years and it was great to keep depression away.
I begun taking it again recently after one year gap...
I have heard that almost ANY ANTIDEPRESANT can potentially make you feel worse initially. In some cases these negative effects persist and people have to change.
Based on what I have seem here at DS, EACH PERSON REACTS DIFFERENTLY TO ANY KIND OF ANTIDEPRESANTS, not only Prozac.
Hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you feel like.

This is due to the fact that the chemical mechanism causing depression is SIMILAR to that causing anxiety. Please forgive me to be so technical ( I am a biochemistry scientist).
I too suffer from depression AND anxiety (see my profile). It seems many people do. I can relate to you entirely.
How much prozac are you taking? 20 mg?
