Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

A couple of things if I may.
First, I know there are some of us here in DS who go to a counselor, or psychotherapist or psychiatrist for counseling for one reason or another. I was wondering whether it would make sense to share with the others, perhaps some of the strategies your counselor is guiding you in, to deal with your depression? Without getting into your personal life issues, I often wonder what kind of advice others are getting from the professionals to deal with their depression. I know that we all have our unique issues, but the end result for some of us is depression. And therefore, there may be some strategies that others can use to fight their depression, if they knew what those strategies are.
Second, it is my understanding that there are a couple of medical professionals in DS who provide services for people with issues such as depression, addiction, anxiety, relationships, and so forth. But where are these people? I thought there were some that volunteered their time to be available for those of us in DS. Or am I mistaken? If I am not mistaken, where are these volunteer counselors, psychotherapists, psychiatrists and so forth?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
The main one is let it all out.
Yell scream cry punch something (not someone) and as your punching scream about whats upsetting you
The second is writing down whats wrong in your life and deciding which things need to change and start tackling them.
Sleepy's comments are a good example of how things can be shared amongst us all.
Ok a lot of people who are depressed are very tired. And also dont sleep well...
This is because we become quite apathetic and lethargic.
Get up. Get dressed and go for a walk for at least 20 minutes per day. Make it as brisk as you can and get youself moving.
The exercise will get enorphins into your blood which will elevate your mood and your body will sleep better thanks to the exercise it has done. Its hard but you have to help yourself sometimes.
In the DS guide lines it clearly states we do not offer professional services. We use the term advice on here quite a bit. However I prefer the term, experience. That is all I have to share with anyone.
The only problem with sharing what a professional experiences has you doing would be in the guidance end. Sure, anyone can tell you to draw a picture, but can they interpret the picture correctly. Even some of the game on here are therapeutic, but we all have to remember, this is not professional advice here.
If you are approached by anyone, selling anything on this site, it is best to either ignore, or turn it over to Doug.
