After reading toocoolforfairyschool's post I decided that I need to tighten up on security as I was using a nickname that a lot of people in the real world know me by so I have changed my username and asked for my old account to be deleted. (If you don't think people will find your profile by your username you probably don't have much to worry about but it is viewable by anyone who finds it).
This is what I have discovered if you think people might find your profile here by searching on your username:
1. Your main profile page is public so don't put anything here you don't want people to see.
2. Your profile includes which communities you have joined in 'My Communities', 'My Recent Activity', entries in 'My Journal' (if you have not made them private), entries in 'MyHugbook' (Hugbook entries can not be made private) and 'My Photos & Videos'.
3. You can make 'My Recent Activity' private by changing the settings in 'My Account'
4. You can make 'My Journal' entries private when you add them.
5. Any posts you make to discussion forums are public and contain your username and thus can be searched for (including if you type someone else's username in to a post, so be mindful of others privacy, and if you change your username don't post what your old one was in a discussion).
I have to admit I am a little disappointed in DS for not giving the option to only show 'My Profile', etc to friends or at least just members of DS. The option is there for 'My Recent Activity' so why not the rest Doug?
I am a software developer so now considering designing my own website. Just for Depression and Bi-Polar to start with maybe?

Your right Archetype but if your the easiest target you will get hit first. That is basically how computer network and internet security works, by not being the easiest target. It should have been concieved though that on a site for health support that you may not want your profile to be publically viewed. This site has a real lack of security options is what I'm basically saying.
