Okay, my best friend's 13 year old son apparently masturbates ALL the time. She called me the other day and asked for advice...like what do you say?? Holy cow, I could do nothing but laugh. Anyway, does anyone out there have any advice I could pass along to her. She said it's really troubling because he doesn't seem to care where he is when the urge strikes him. I have a 13 year old son too, but he doesn't have this problem so I'm at a loss. HELP! No laughing...if you can help it.

Well its natural but if hes doing it anywhere... she is going to have to either sit him down for a chat about social etiquette or take him to a doctor if he persists.

He might not go blind but if hes doing it ALL THE TIME... his arm might get to twice the size of his other... people will stare!!

as a nurse, I have seen and read about this but I only have girls. EEK, the pediatrician says to tell them that they can do it if they like but they must go to the privacy of their bedroom and never in a public place. Make sure to respect the boundries of their room so they have a private spot to do this. If parents see children continuing to do this sort of behavior in inappropriate spots, they should see, professional help with a therapist. It could be signs of prior sexual abuse.

I think it's natural, I mean, hey, I have a sixteen year old son, and I think if he does it ALL the time, maybe he's bored, or feels comforted by it somehow

You folks are hilarious...seriously though, how do you approach a 13 year old boy without him freaking out? My son and I have a really close relationship, and we talk about everything. He would probably laugh if I told him I needed to talk to him about masturbating. My friends boy however is a bit backward and for lack of a better word, unusual.

they say it is a comfort thing for small children (yes, small children masturbate frequently), however, older kids should know better about doing it in inappropriate spots......usually a BIG red flag for sexual abuse.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??
