What do you think is the major factor in your depressive illness? I often wonder about this for myself. Is it the way my brain is wired? Is it trauma from my childhood? Is it simply my having poor strategies for dealing with life and stress?
While I think all of these things play into it, for me I think it's largely poor life strategies. My problems were certainly triggered by traumatic events in my childhood (abuse, car accident, death of my father, poverty,) but I think they continue to dog me because
1. I haven't dealt with them properly yet, and
2. As a result of the trauma(s), I developed habits which, while they were essential for my survival then, severely hamper me now. (Habits such as withdrawal, lack of trust, detachment, and so on.)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Which is annoying as there is no problem which I can work through to get over it.
Its just me.
Booooooo.
DEF think heredity plays a major role...but doubt it's the entire story.
the brain is one complex organ. no doubt.
There is plenty of scientific evidence to support the genetic link.
The rest got triggered after my father tried to molest my daughter, then the crapola really hit the fan :(
