Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (Birthday of the Unconquered Sun) was the Roman holiday that celebrated the lengthening of days that began around December 25 (using the Julian calender).
Many pre-Christian European cultures (Celtic tribes mostly, I think) celebrated at this time of the year for the same reason - the days were getting longer and the warmth of the sun was anticipated.
So, to all my new friends at DS, I wish you a very Merry Dies Natalis Solis Invicti!

I wish I were celebrating this holiday. I would love to feel the warmth of the sun. It is just cold here.

Pixie it was not about the Warmth of the Sun it was about the Coming of the light when the Days start to grow longer again. I feel very close to this Time of year considering we have only about 6 hours of Daylight up here right now.

My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
