This is my first post, but I've been reading other posts and you all seem so helpful. So I'm hoping you can help me. I've been on various meds for the last 2 years and for the 3 years before that I just dealt with the depression. So basically I've spent a quarter of my life not really being happy.
Everytime when I try a new med the doc asks 'did it make you feel better?' and for a while the answer was always 'meh' because I just didn't feel like crap. I was put on seroquel and lamictal and I THINK i feel fine.... but I don't. I mean for the most part I'm just kinda numb but I function fine. I do well at my job. I do well at school, but I don't WANT to do anything. It's an endeavor just to get out of bed.
So basically: how do you know that the medicine is working? Is it obvious? or is it just a lack of life sucking? I know this isn't very big in the big scheme of things, but any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I think meds are kind of an individual experience. My own thoughts are this- I can tell the difference between when I'm on them and when I'm off them. That does not mean they are a cure all though. Meds work best with the accompaniment of other things- therapy, positive thinking, journaling, simple goals.... all kinds of things. You have to find what works for you really. But personally if you can't really tell the difference you may need to try different meds.
All the best!
Oh, and welcome.
And I guess the consensus is that if the meds are working then you don't have issues getting out of bed (more than just wanting to go back to sleep!) or doing something. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but the gist is that I should try something new... thanks guys! And thank you for making me feel welcome!
I would be lying if I said the meds fixed everything, and yes there are still some very bleak-bleughhh days, but they are definitely fewer than before the meds. Don't know if this really helps you though!
