I have been here before, a long long time ago and now I am back.Forgive me for not just saying what I want to say, even under a triple dose of antidepressants it is still raw and seeping and I am hesitant at revealing it as at least under the bandages around my heart I don,t have to look at how raw and wounded. My child was cleaved from my heart by his own actions. my child of ten, turning eleven...

theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??
I do wish you well and I know that you will make the best of it and come out so much better. Good luck to you, you will be missed!!
most of the time insurance will not pay for you to stay more than 3 days. that said, if you enter voluntarily, you can release yourself, but they generally require 24 hours notice, and the doctor must approve it.
also, if you are a reader, take lots of books. take crossword puzzles, sudoku, coloring books and crayons. most hospitals will allow you to have items that are not dangerous to yourself.
also, be prepared for them to take your clothes. a lot of hospitals require you to wear a scrubs for the first 24-48 hours, and they do not allow you to have belts, shoelaces, headphones, etc.
most hospitals do not have an exercise or activity program these days. be ready to do yoga, sit-ups, push-ups and exercise, but do it calmly. if you look like you're getting too upset, they'll intervene.
hospital food sucks, and i refuse to eat it. if you do not like it, pretend to eat it. if you do not eat they will get pissed and write it down in your book. get food, sit down, move it around on your plate, etc.., then hide it/throw it away.
spend time in the common area, even if it's miserable. people staying in their bedrooms too long worry the staff.
communicate with the other inpatients, even if they are all drug users (as most psych wards are also substance abuse wards). it looks good for you.
take your meds with you, but they will keep them and issue you new ones.
for me, the worst thing is the restlessness; the not being able to go anywhere, or do anything, so take a lot of "harmless" things for you to do. watch tv if that's what you like (though you have to share), do a puzzle, etc.
absolutely make it look like you're trying, at all times, and it will get yo places in the psyche ward.
good luck.
Best of luck my friend!!
