Hello everyone
This is my first post. I suffer from recurring depression - first diagnosedn in my early twenties.
The current episode of depression is awful and I feel particularly bad today.
I saw my psychiatrist on Tuesday, I'm lucky enough to see one of the best in the UK. He says he thinks it is primarily a chemical imbalance with me (but I'm still having CBT too). Hearing that it was chemical actually made me feel better, made me feel it was less my fault. He's prescribed Lamotrigine for me as a mood stabiliser together with citalopram an SSRI)
Has anyone taken Lamotrigine?
Cheers
Simon

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Your comment "Hearing that it was chemical actually made me feel better, made me feel it was less my fault." Just remember no matter what its not your fault. We don't asked to be depressed it just happens so some of us. Hang in there.
I've been on Lamictal for several years. I've been taking meds for 20+ years, and I have to say, it's the best I've taken. Absolutely no side effects, no weight gain. The only difficult thing is that it takes time to titrate up or down. Be patient, it's worth it.
There is one major side effect to watch for - a rash. If it happens, it's gebnerally in the first few weeks after starting. If you do see any kind of abnormal rush, call your pdoc IMMEDIATELY!
My husband, and two our our kids, also take it. Has been great for them, too. Actually, I know a lot of people on it, and they all are doing well.
Citalopram is the generic name for Celexa. I take Lexapro, which is very similar to it. Again, my husband, and the same two kids, also take citalopram. They all have had dosage adjustments, but they're all doing well.
I do also take Wellbutrin to supplement the Lexapro; I needed that extra boost to really control the depression. Other than situational depressions, I've been really good for quite a while.
Let me know how it's going.
