Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my physical health lately and it is making me... so depressed.
I haven't been able to eat much (stomach ulcers) and have NO energy. And I haven't been sleeping... nightmares have been at an all time high.... and to top it ALL off, because of my stomach I have been getting sick a lot which my doctor said means my meds are probably 1/4 effective at best right now. Great.
I feel like so helpless about everything right now. We are trying to figure out my stomach thing everyday but until then I feel like I am having to battle all this all by myself.
The one thing that really keeps me going is hiking with my dogs but that just isn't really an option for me physically right now. sigh.
So i feel like lately i'm just sitting inside all the time, not being able to do what i love, forcing myself to work and i'm just... depressed.
I don't know. Sorry for so much complaining. Hope everyone is doing ok xxx

Hi!! 6 months ago I made the decision to get off anxiety medication. I felt ready, life was good! A few weeks after my last dosage, I developed diarrhea. Long story short and after a colonoscopy a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis. Im taking medication which is helping but with the stress of going through this, working from home a year now (due to covid) and not...

Trigger warning, So last night I learned that my knee surgery is likely to cancelled but I had an appointment with physio to see if I could go home after the surgery. Ontario is locked down due to covid and the government has said to cancel surgeries. I went to my appointment, all good. I stopped and took a few pix of an owlet and came home in a great mood. I got a call I could...
Perhaps you can approach the doctor to check for Helicobacter pylori infection that causes the ulcer. If an infection is confirmed, a short course of antibiotics will do the job. Eating certain foods can reduce the aggravation of the stomach lining, which in turn, will also help with ulcer pain:

Avoiding drugs that cause ulcers such as the anti-inflammatory NSAIDs, corticosteroids. etc..... can prevent further ulceration of the stomach. Avoiding alcohol consumption can prevent stomach ulceration. Or that you have an underlying Crohn's disease where inflammation along the digestive tract will cause ulceration.
Have you approached a gastroenterologist? Perhaps you may need to undertake stomach endoscopy where the gastroenterologist would take a biopsy of your stomach lining to investigate the cause of the ulceration. Once the cause is established, the physician would be able to prescribe the types of medications that help the ulcer to heal.
Certain anti-ulcerant medications can cause nightmares and sleep disturbance, such as the H2 receptor antagonist ranitidine etc... The local pharmacist will help you to select the appropriate anti-ulcerant over the counter that does not cause nightmares or sleep disturbance. Of course, your doctor can also prescribe a Proton pump inhibitor together with antibiotics in the H.Pylori eradication pack to eradicate the bug if you have been tested positive to H.pylori.
Whilst all of that treatment is on foot, you can also drink oral rehydration solution (available in pharmacies) to replenish the energy (sugar + salts) that are not coming from the diet due to your reduced food intake. Hope that helps, and best wishes.
You're not complaining in my eyes. What you're going through sounds very hard = I don't have ulcers, but I've had physical stuff that has make life virtually unbearable and still had to go on somehow. The lack of understanding, compassion, and isolation just adds to what you're already going through. I'm so glad your dogs can cuddle you at least. They are such great spirits. I'm sure they're happy just to be with you even if you can't hike right now. I also heard Crohn's can cause ulcers. Is drinking milk to help ulcers a myth? Andromeda8 sounds on the ball. I'm sending you positive thoughts that you'll feel a bit better soon.
yeah i’ve had stomach ulcers a few times that keep coming back... thank you sooo much for all the info i appreciate it. it’s definitely just exhausting
best to all xxx
