For those of you who have sought help and have a dx of recurrent major depression...
you know how the dx code is 296.3x
296 being major depression
3 being recurrent
x being severity (1 mild, etc)
Has your doctor ever changed the 'x' to match your depression at the moment or is it just kind of superfluous and he/she has left it at whatever it was when they first saw you?

i'm confused.
My psych always puts it on the receipt he gives me..I guess so I can turn it into the insurance company.
But I know my depression has gone from mild to severe with out any change in the last descriptive number. I was just wondering if it's common practice not to change it once it's established.
