I feel like I was faking being happy to everyone for so long. Nobody at work knew I was so unhappy. I would cry at night and whenever I was alone. But I put on a happy face when someone was around. I just don't agree with that. Maybe I'm just not understanding the phrase?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You end up creating internal tension between peoples' perceptions of you vs. what you really feel..then you begin to feel like you can't meet expectations...which makes your depression worse.
Certainly a pleasant face never hurts at work or something...but you need friends and confidants to talk with and share your feelings.
Faking happiness prevents me from concentrating on the reality of my depression, or doing any work on it.
