Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I fully understand that it is not a good idea for depressed people to carry firearms and it's not even a good idea to have such things in your home as they will talk to you, like a whisper reminder they are there (not really talk to ya) and I'm not even sure if I am legally allowed to have firearms. I've never tried to buy one so I don't know if medical records pop up in those background checks or not... does anybody know?
I suppose if you've been hospitalized or court ordered commited somewhere, that would show up but I've never been hospitalized or anything... are ordinary doctors, psychologists and/or psychiatrists, or insurance bean counters required to turn our names in? That's the only documentation of my depression... I'm not on SSI or anything.
Why I want to know is because I do own a couple unregistered firearms that I would like to get rid of... I don't want to sell them, one was a gift from my ex. He bought it new and had my name engraved on it (he was so romantic? LOL) and the cute derringger (sp?) that sits in an little ankle holster was a gift from my dad that he bought off some old guy at a flea market. He was worried about me coming home in the middle of the night. So I don't even know the history on that one.
I've heard that you can turn guns into the police dept. to be disposed of... but would I get into trouble if I wasn't legally allowed to own them in the first place because of the depression? Or get into trouble since they are not registered? How else can they be disposed of? It's not like it would be good to just toss out with the trash. Any ideas???

In Ontario they have a policy where you can turn firearms in without any repercussions, but I think this is only at certain times of the year, they usually advertise this sort of "clean up the streets" thing on the news. Is there anyway to check anonymously with the Police?

I don't know... I'm afraid if I call them to ask such questions, they will show up at my door.

you are suppose to turn them in just to do that no questions asked because they are not registered you should have noting to worry about

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
