Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Has anyone had any experience with these meds? I've taken them intermittently for years, currently on 40mg. They've helped in the sense that I don't wake up at daft o'clock anymore, and my appetite is back, but they are doing nothing for my mood or utter exhaustion

hey ruby, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with either med. I'm sure someone in the community is and will share their experience with you. Good luck.

Yes I take citalopram. I thought it was working at first, but I feel like it stopped about a month ago. (I've been taking it for 1 year). It did help with my appetite until recently, & I did see a change in my mood. As for sleeping I take trazodone.

Yep i used 2 be on them, i felt like a zombie on them was soooooo tired all the time, didn't have the energy 2 do anything. I was told they were side affects & they would pass, then 8 months lata down the line i was still the same, so i decided i had 2 do something as the doctor didn't seem 2 be, so i came off them & although im still depressed i don't feel monged out anymore.

Used to take them and temazepam... made me feel spaced out and weird so now I'm on no meds. Its fun. Its 7:10am and I haven't slept.

My doc has just put me on them but I am on a very low dose because I am very fearful of meds. I am on 10mg a day. Does anyone know what the standard dose/maximum dose its?

deleted_user
i take 50mg a day, but im on 3 other meds as well. with the combination of all the meds, things seem to be working. i still find things really hard but that's because im working through trauma. without the meds i think i would be dead

deleted_user
in response to candleint - ive been on up to 80mg. i started off on 5mg a day for the same reason as you and gradually increased the dose.

deleted_user
I started on 20mg a day

i had the same thing they didnt seem to work at all for me. my appetite seemed to return but i m not certain if that was the pills or the knoledge that people were watching me and my sleeping get a "little" better but i was also on sleeping meds. but my mood stayed low. and i was still constantly tired. i recently stopped taking them and so far nothings changed

I take them, too, only 20 mg, tho. At first they really helped, but now I just feel like shash again. Did you have to up your dose after a while? I do, certainly hate what they do to my sex life, though.

deleted_user
what did they do to your sex life?

deleted_user
I don't have any type of sex drive when I'm on them.

I started out on 10mg (I avoided all meds for such a long time, especially after I became addicted to Valium and Temazepam) and went to 20mg. I never got any help from my GP in the UK, they just let me get on with it. My doc here in NZ increased it to 40mg, but I feel right back where I started. Don't have the cash for any therapy at the moment, so am trying to devise my own recovery plan. Not going very well at the moment. My libido became non existent too, but I figure that was the depression.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
