How many of you think you have a chemical imbalance which has caused you to have depression?
If so, why do you think that?
There are those that believe that depression causes a chemical imbalance.
Personally, I believe that some people have a predisposition to become depressed; exact cause unknown but genes play a big role.
My depression hit at age 43 when life events became to overwhelming & stressful.
If I was chemically imbalanced, how come I wasn't depressed prior to that late age?
Thoughts?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Great question though. I'm curious to see the replies to this one.
i think the chemical imbalance causes depression, just because thats what i'm told and it makes sense..theres really no other explanation
my depression hit when i was 12, out of nowhere....
Alcoholic family, isolated childhood. I believe that there was something there first, but a steady diet of anger and depression pushed along a chemical imbalance. This imbalance is the norm for me now. But it can be controlled. For some it is meds, for me it is cognitive. Situational circumstances give me highs and lows. I think on the scale, I am currently at the lesser end. But I have been at the deep end, and it was not pretty. Is it chemical, heredity, or situational? I think it changes occur like a body changes over a lifetime. I was predisposed for grey hair, but it did not show up until a certain age. Same with diabetes. Chemicals change, and can be changed in our brain.
