The American post really hurt me, but I am kinda glad it did because I have been disgusted with my country for some time now and have forgotten some things. I didn't choose to be born here but I was, and I grew up learning the American way. I can not control what my ancestors did nor how our language is. I think the differences should be appreciated not frowned upon. I am not a stupid American, I am a very intelligent American and I don't feel that the "yankees" should be lumped together as a whole. I don't lump the English, or the brits together (or whatever you would like to be called) as a whole and say derogatory comments. This country is full of unique individuals that come from all over the world. I hear that some of the UK and GB hates us. Well I feel bad for anyone that hates someone they don't even know because we have enough hatred in this world. When someone from another country comes over here to visit we welcome them with open arms and respect their differences. At least in my part of the world. Sure we have some haters here but the good outweighs the bad by far. I am not mad at anyone for their posts because everyone is entitled to their opinion (another wonderful thing here...freedom of speech) but I felt compelled to respond. Because I learned some things about myself and was reminded about the good in my country. A lot of you had great points but I want to add some things America has contributed to the world:
n ideology:
republican government
constitutional goverment
In technology:
steam power
internal combustion engine
powered flight
television
electric power
microchip
In human rights/diplomacy:
Military assets provided to the United Nations since December 7, 1941 (UN was originally founded during World War II to combat the axis powers)
Marshall plan and subsequent financial assistance/foreign aid
In literature:
Melville, Whitman, Steinbeck, Lamour (my favorite), Frost, Dickenson, etc

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Your country has achieved great things and you should be proud.
I am a naturalized citizen of the USA and prouder than ever to be a part of this great land!!
If you're going to get upset about any little thing written on this board, you're just giving yourself a hard time for no purpose. Sleepy meant it all in jest. The context of the post was in humour.
I feel a lot of people just wait around here for anything they can say made them upset, ...why? I don't know.
Just my two cents.
unwise, very unwise
I think Sleepychicks post was very tongue in cheek and that sometimes on here we need a little light relief which is exactly how I saw that post :)
Some of us are very touchy on subjects and I think it fair to say that no matter what is posted, someone somewhere will take offence at it. I dont know the answer to that, all I know is that it was a lighthearted look at the Brits and the American differences :)
