Hi everyone,
im new to this forum, to any forum really, just feeling in need of some support and to speak about my story i guess,
im 23 and my mum is suffering from severe dementia and she is only 55, she was diagnosed 2 years ago but has been suffering since i was in my early teens, i dont remember the exact instances or dates but there has been some significant milestones in her decline
i remember when she stopped driving,
stopped reading her books,
stopped cooking tea,
stopped answering the phone or the door,
stopped being able to speak
stopped being able to go to the toilet
it has been a slow decline to get to where she is now, and i dont even fully understand what is wrong with her, we were told its dementia but not what type,
the only thing that keeps me from crying every night is that she still laughs
thanks for reading

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I don't know if you are her main or only caregiver, but you and whoever else is involved should pin down her doctor(s?) I have found that the more I know, the better I can face a problem. Knowing the cause won't change how she is, but it may let you search out more information on her declining condition and how to deal with it or prepare for what's next. Shadow boxing is more exhausting than fighting a known threat.
Don't know what else to suggest now. Keep your chin up and your Mom laughing. rocasi
I really know how you feel seeing this special person changing into someone else. Yup, me too.
