Hi! I am interested in some routes I can take to fight the denial of my short term disability claim with my employer's group insurance plan. I had a flare up of my DDD issues to the point where I got out of the bed by slithering onto the floor, was unable to stand fully erect and was restricted from lifting anything heavier than a sheet of paper so could not do laundry or grocery shop. It was also unbearable to sit for more than 30 min to 1 hour. Being unable to work yet knowing that the flare ups are usually temporary, I applied for short term disability through my employer's group insurance plan. Unfortunately, the claims managers denied my claim as they did not feel as though my MRI showing buldges and DDD supported my symptoms. They also rudely said "So what...you have DDD. Most who have sedentary jobs do and still work." What is amazing is that I appled for short term disability -- not permanent or long term disability. Short term disability, under my employer's plan, is payable between one and eight weeks only! Ideas anyone? Thank you :)
