Hello all. I'm new to this site and I've been suffering from degenerative disc disease in my lower back and neck for several years now. I'm 38 yrs old and just last month had a hemilaminectomy at the L-4 thru S-1 levels. For years I've been suffering almost daily lower back pain. Thankfully, the surgery was successful(at least at this point it has been!)and my lower back feels great. Unfortunately, I also have herniated discs in my cervical spine (C3-4 and C6-7). Where the back has always been more of constant, daily throbbing pain, the neck will flare up periodically. When it does, the pain is excrutiating. It feels as though my arm is pulled from it's socket. Of course, after the back surgery my neck had a flare-up! I'm pretty sure I know why. 2 weeks prior to my surgery I had to come off my daily dose of Relafen (anti-immflamitory med) because it can thin the blood. Well, after a month off it I developed this latest flare-up. I'm frustrated because I'm having to take more and more daily pain meds to dull the pain. Right now, I'm prescribed 20mg Oxycontin 2x daily and 4-6 Percocets daily for breakthrough pain. I don't like taking this much pain medicine, but without it the pain is too much. I have to go back to work next week (my sick time will almost be out) and I'm worried about getting through the work day with the pain. I'm just frustrated and venting I guess. I'm back on the Relafen and waiting for it to slowly work it's way back into my system. That's the medication that seems to be a lifesaver for me. That, and the pain medicine of course. Anyway, that's my story. Thanks for listening!
