Hello everyone,
So on Friday, I took a yoga class. It's a very usual practice that I do. Nothing out of the ordinary. About 2 hours later I am sitting having lunch and suddenly I get a pain in my mid thigh that feels like someone stuck a hot poker right into the bone. It lasted about 10 seconds and then stopped. It happened again and then again. A week or so before that I had a stabbing pain in my shin, not my calf. So, now my leg hurts after the stabbing pain stopped. It hurts enough that I went to see the doctor yesterday morning. She pressed on my leg and ordered an x-ray (why she thought it was bone related is beyond me). The x-ray was normal. Now, my leg is not hot nor is it swollen but it HURTS. I've taken Tylenol... nothing helps much. I have not had a recent injury, hospitalization. I did take a week off exercise as that's a good thing for me to do once in a while but this is confusing. I know what muscle soreness feels like after a break and this is NOT the same.... I did put a call into my doctor this afternoon but haven't heard back from her. I do NOT want to make an unnecessary ER visit as I don't have insurance. I don't smoke, I'm not overweight... as far as I know there is no family history. Maybe my maternal grandfather had clotting issues but he had heart disease, diabetes.... you name it. Anyhow, sorry to bother you with the details but this is a concern as it's just so odd. Thanks for any advice/help you can offer.

And it seems to be kind of localized even though my thigh is sore... didn't hit it on anything. No history of injury on this leg.... trying not to freak out but it's hard.

First off, you have every right to be concerned. I think I can speak for anybody in this group and tell you that we are always self monitoring for aches and pains that might lead us back to the hospital. My first question is are you currently on an anticoagulant? Since you have had an X-ray and that showed nothing, the next step would be something to rule out a DVT. Talk with your doc and express your concern. You know your body better than anybody else, if something doesn't feel right, then you need to pursue it. Good luck.

No I'm not on any medications. I will just have to wait until tomorrow but I am scared. I can't get hold of a doc. I even tried the answer service and no one returned my call. Feeling very helpless...

So, I went to the ER last night as pain was very severe. They gave me some pain meds and then did the d-dimer and another coagulation test. Both came out negative. However, the doctor wasn't satisfied with the tests as she couldn't do a sonogram (small town hospitals) so she said she didn't understand the origin of the pain and the severity. I'm following through with my regular doctor today to see if they feel a sonogram should be done. All of this and no insurance. What to do?

Oh Anne, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I am praying that all will be well with your visit with the doctor. Please keep us posted as to your status. You are in my prayers.

So, the problem is a severely pinched nerve. After the negative coagulant tests, the doctor who saw me today did range of motion types of tests and said 'it's this muscle here that's causing the problems'. I am thankful. Thank you for your care and concern. It was scary.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
