Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
I can't wait for you to talk to Dr. Moll and get his take on this...
I really want to know what the benefit would be. The article states the benefit is it's not a chemically derived anticoagulant, but when you start messin' with goat genes, is it really "natural"? As far as safety is concerned, wouldn't bleeding risks be the same (because if you don't clot, you bleed?)
I'll admit, while I'm an avowed animal lover, and highly suspicious of genetic modification in general, I'm conflicted when it comes to medical advancements. Especially when it impacts ME. There would have to be a very clear, real benefit to this before I could get on the band wagon. Very interesting Tom!
"Useful for people with inherited antithrombin deficiency (uncommon disorder) in certain situations (delivery, major surgery) to prevent blood clots."
For those with AT deficiency, this could be a option in the near future. For the rest of us, we still have to wait for the other oral anticoagulants to pass Trials. As previously noted, the new oral anticoagulants are not being geared towards long-term users, only patient undergoing surgery or just having suffered a DVT. For us lifer's, we are still going to turn to Warfarin/Coumadin; for now.
