Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.

Hello All,
I just joined this group and was recommended by Barb. This is a great group. I was just diagnosed with a PE/DVT and was hospitalized for 8 days I was just discharged 5 days ago. My PE was formed due to Birth Control Pills and my INR level was 3.0 on Thursday when I saw my PCP. The Hematologist said I do not have a blood disorder that contributes to the clotting it was just the Birth Control Pills. I have much to learn about DVT/PE. I don't know what is a good INR level. My PCP said I may be on warafin for 6 months and I am wearing my compression stockings. I go back to work tomorrow and I am BLESSED and scared.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
Welcome to the club. As Sophia said between 2 and 3 is good for an INR so you are doing ok. This is a great group to get support so, come on in, the water is fine.
I'm glad you joined the group!!!
3.0 is perfect! Ask your doctor or nurse what is considered therapeutic for you. Usually they start you out between 2.0 to 3.0. I've reclotted and so my hematogist likes me to stay between 2.5-3.5 when I'm on coumadin.
Take Care!
Barb
A therapeutic INR is considered between 2.0 and 3.0 and others have said, but, as Barb has mentioned, some patients need a higher INR based on their medical history.
Two website I highly recommend are:
www.fvleiden.org This website belongs to a godo friend of mine, Deb Smith of California. Deb is the pioneer of DVT/PE awareness, having started her website back in 1998.
Another website belongs to the volunteer Patient Advocacy Organization, the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia (NATT). NATT is a organization that was formed by patients much like yourself. Their website is located at www.stoptheclot.org . Most of their Medical and Scientific Advisory Board (MASAB) members are some of the top researchers here in the U.S.
