Hi there...looking for feedback. My son, 17 has had many health issues all his life and in the past few years has gone from being able to attend school somewhat regulary to not at all ( home-schooled for the past 2-3 years). His issues are primarily GI - he has a motiltiy disorder of the colon and may need an ostomy or a colon pacemaker because of the constipation. However, when we saw the new specialist last week he asked me if our son had ever been tested for CF. This kinda threw me off as I was thinking 'what does cf have to do with constipation?". He asked if our son has breathing problems and I answered no - course after the appt was over I started thinking and remembering all his other issues over the last 10 years or so. As soon as he started school he began getting throat and chest infections, over and over to the point that he eventually became resistant to many antibiotics. 'bout age 10 he collapsed in PE and couldn't breathe - doc said acid-reflux induced asthma...meds for that and an inhaler. He always 'gulped'...constantly...said there was gunk in his throat...more meds. He never could fully participate in PE after that and hasn't been able at all for the last 3 years as he gets winded. I've home-schooled mostly because of the GI issues but also because as soon as he enters the building he comes home with something and is sick for 2 weeks anyhow...we've always called him the 'bubble boy' ( not to his face of course!). Also, he didn't pass meconium for about 10 days ( I told the doc he had as I wanted to get home from hospital - didn't realize the importance). I am going to have him tested but in the meantime just wanted to get a little feedback from people who have experience. The specialist we saw didn't do the test because we said no to lung issues and he is 6 hours away so now I have to take our son to the GP and explain this, ask for the test. Thanx in advance for any feedback.
