Question about medicine

Hi!
I was diagnosed in July with Ulcerative Colitis. My doctor put me on Asacol and Prednisone. The Prednisone worked for a while but now it isn't really doing anything. Now my doctor wants to take me off the Prednisone and put me on Azathioprine and Remicade. I have read that taking these two medicines together have given some people a very serious type of cancer. I was just wondering if any of you have been on these two medicines and what your experience was.
Thanks so much!

I'm on both meds and I try not to worry about the risks of cancer. My GI said that he wants to take me off of the Imuran in 6-9 months because the risk of cancer increases if you take both medicines together for over a year.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in '02 and started receiving Remicade treatments in early '03. Remiade worked wonders for me for 5 1/2 years. Unfortunately, a few months ago, I developed drug-incuded Lupus and vasculitis from the Remicade and had to stop getting the treatments. I'm slowly getting better, and I believe (hope) the drug-induced Lupus will be gone shortly. Even though Remicade caused me to have problems in the long run, I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world. It gave me my life back for 5+ years!! If your doctor is recommending it, go for it. (Prior to Remicade I had been on Pentasa, Asacol & Prednisone....none of them worked for me.) Good luck to you!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
