Hello my son was diagnosed with Chron's disease in March of 2006 after having an emergency abcess and fistula surgery in January 2006. He did not present typical, his symptoms were not typical and his tests were inconclusive but after many opinions we have been diagnosed. He was 11 years old when we found out and he is now 13, we are about 1 1/2 years into the disease and he is having some problems with food. It is so hard to get him to understand the seriousness of this disease at such a vulnerable age in his life. He doesn't seem to be concerned which in some ways is good but also concerns me as mom because I want him to understand the complications. He currently weighs 77lbs and is very concerned as to why he is so much smaller than other kids. I am not sure what else to say to help him. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
When he was younger he was a quiet and reserved person (similar to know at almost 40) and never told anyone that anything was wrong other then stomach pain. No one thought of it so no one did anything.
Good for you, for keeping track of your son!
We did also find out that it is genetic and when I started questioning his family with symptoms it seems that it is in fact genetic, just no one ever knew.
I am told with Crohn's there are certain foods (corn, raw apples, etc.) that do not break down and with Crohn's it will cause flare up. They can have the foods but in small amounts or mashed, cooked, etc. I am finding this helps my husband keep the flare ups down. Lets just say I have gotten pretty creative with my cooking!
is there a local support group in your area with maybe kids his age that have the same thing? that might help, just a thought!
