My mother has SEVERE emphysema. She is currently in the hospital and was just taken off a respirator last night. They put her on one because she wasn't breathing very good and her CO2 levels were too high. It seems my mom is getting very ill every 3 to 4 weeks. I'm having a hard time getting any answers from doctors and i know she isn't getting proper medical care because she doesn't have insurance. She takes spireva and albuterol for her COPD. She also is diabetic and has high blood pressure. She started getting sick last week at home and was getting more shortness of breath and coughing alot. When i got to her house on Friday she had her oxygen in her nose but she still couldn't hardly breathe and couldn't even get herself dressed. I noticed that under her eyes was extremely puffy. I took her to the hospital and the end result was a respirator. She can't do this much longer and i'm scared. If she would've started taking antibiotics the moment she got sick I wonder if that would've helped her. No doctor wants to prescribe her any to keep just in case. I'm at my wits end with these doctors. It's bad because she doesn't have any insurance. She doesn't qualify for medicare because she is only 58. Would a nebulizer help? I'm grasping for anything. I have to take charge of my mothers health and care because she can't do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
