Hi Everyone -
Fiance was taken by squad to hospital Easter morning, with severe ascites, jaundice, stage 1 encephalopathy, low albumin levels and malnutrition. Main cause seems to be self medication by alcohol for pain due to knee injury and no health insurance. I am embarrassed to say I did not recognize the symptoms, but there is so much now as I research that makes sense. He has had over 18L removed from his abdomen in the last two days and there is still more that should be removed. He finally has knees again today. He is saying I am building a coffin for him because I am doing research and finding all these "horrible" things about cirrhosis. I tried to tell him where is the word coffin in the phrase "Let's get you feeling better, get you home and keep you as healthy as we can for as long as we can." The nurse had to separate us today for a bit as he was yelling at me in the hospital room. He can not stand up without help and can not stand without the support of a walker and the doctors are talking releasing him tomorrow to rehab. He does not want his son knowing how sick he is, but I have already told his son because he needed to know - he told his son he had fluid retention and was going to go home in a couple of days....What am I supposed to do?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Even when my man wasn't in critical condition, he was not what you could call cooperative. This has just enhanced this undesirable personality trait.
I'll be happy to chat with you, tell you anything I have learned in my "crash" course education. Feel free to contact me.
My prayers are with you.
