we pour some soda and sit in the living room and watch John Wayne and eat our wonderful sammichs and drink . We talk and relax and go to bed somewhere around 1 or 2 am (way past his bedtime)
and its always just the 2 of us just sharing quiet time.....he does this for me as my dad passed away 17 yrs ago 2 weeks b4 thanksgiving and after that he made it special again for me ;)

But when i was little, my grandmother would cook, she was a brilliant cook. The whole family would gather at her home and after dinner the grownups would play cards and the kids, would rehearse some sort of skit and we would then we would put on our show.
I moved away to the West Coast before I had a chance to enjoy watching my nieces and nephews and little cousins taking their turn at stardom.

This is the first year that we will be having Thanksgiving without my mother-in-law. She passed away in August from blood clots in her lungs. My husband wants to change the tradition this year because he can't handle her not being here. We will be having a duck instead of a turkey, and since we're not going to my FIL's house, we won't be cooking much. I'm hoping that next year we will be going back to the old tradition.

here's the recipe, even with it you can't make it as good as my momma. You just have to have the feel. It also feeds the entire clan.
I pon of cornbread
2 cans of biscuit
6 eggs
chopped celery, you have to take all the strings out of it, use the tender inside pieces of the stalk, chop thin
onion, a large one is enough, chopped thin
one box of kellogg's croutons, she uses the seasoned kind, with the sage in it.
do not add additional sage, yuk.........
chicken broth, we always use the broth from the chicken to make dumplings. Mix till it looks right.....kinda soupy but not sopping, this is the trick to the entire dressing.
after mixing, pour in all in one of those great big aluminum pans, the deep ones, and bake at 375 or about an hour or until the top turns golden brown......just too good.

There are 5 siblings, 9 grandchildren, and most with mates and kids of their own, so it feeds alot. Just depends on how much they all eat, and how many times they go back for seconds......
