This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Hi All,
Just wanted to ask a wee question. I have spent over 3yrs in pain ...my doctors still do not know what is causing the pain so are not treating it very well. My GP is an asshole (and that is me being very polite!) and after yrs of trying to get medication that will help with the pain i am now back to hydrocodone which i told him does not work, but he says it is the only thing left he can suggest. I was on 35mg now im on 8mg to see if a lower dose will help :| (RAGE!) ...Anyhow, getting to my question! LOL
The occupational health woman in my work suggested a tens machine (which my dad kindly gave me!) so i have it on whilst i sit here in work. Have any of you ever used one for leg/hip/lower back pain before? Do you find that it works?
Right now it feels like one of the last options i have so im hoping it will work. Any comments/advice you can give i would really appreciate :)
Thanks very much ......Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who celebrate today :) xoxoxox

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
so... shrugs...you might as well try it

Don't drive while using it, you don't need a sudden leg jerk at the wheel.
Like any form of pain deadening system or pill, it will mask continuing damage to the real problem. So although I suggest using it, and I loved using mine years agao. If it works to deaden the pain, you will not feel "new" damage or pain issues.
Please make sure you keep up with diagnostic testing to prevent further degeneration.
Have a wonderful and pain free day
Ouch
I've found that Tens can help at times with the pain. One lesson I unfortunately learnt was to be VERY cafeful when turning up the intensity of the machine. My tens machine was set so that it "zapped" in a pattern, gradually ramping up in intensity. I couldn't feel it at first, and so turned it up really high, and then when it "zapped" again it was at a very intensity, so high that it made my underlying muscle contract really hard... which increased my pain for a while. So, lesson to learn- start really slow and low- and be carefully when turning up the intensity. Hope you find the machine helpful.
