Anyone here heard about some so called new studies that suggest chronic pain patients on narcotics have hyperalgesia that is actually caused by the pain meds and that the treatment is to wean the patient off all narocitcis and keep them off for 2-3 months as this is the only way to tell if this syndrome has occured? I am being told that I have this, although I don't know how they could possibly know. I have been told that I am a very responsible patient, follow all orders, don't ask for early refills, and have never shown any signs of addictive behavior, so why wean me? To prove I have pain? I just don't get it. And I have been told to agree to do this or my doctor will no longer treat me and once that is in my record I will be hard pressed to find a doctor who will!
