I'm pretty sure I'm going to be okay. Or "so far so good"!
I've dropped from 6 mg to 2 mg since Monday. I'm feeling pain but I'm sitting very still to keep the pain at bay. I'm noticing a tightness in my abdomen which really made it hard to eat today. The most difficult part is emotionally.
I explained to my mom what was going on and although she wants to be helpful she doesn't quite get the concept of giving up expectations. I was able to express my needs tho. This is difficult for me because when you live with your mother your needs don't exist.LOL! I'm so glad I'm over my mother. I am able to co-exist with her. She shared with my sister that I'm going off of the Suboxone and she doesn't have a thing in the house to eat and the sheets and towels need folded today or the "sky will fall"! My sis understood and came to the rescue.
Has anyone taken themselves off of Suboxone? I'm expecting something to start up but maybe it starts with you are totally off of it.
Guess I'll find out.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Hugs,
Today I'm on 1mg. I have a froggy voice and a quesy stomach. A cup of tea worked for a while. Now I'm ready for another. I'm not one to get colds but the voice could maybe be a cold starting except I don't feel congested.
I'm in shock or does withdrawal start when a person is totally off the drug? I just have no idea of what to expect. I had a hospital detox for the Soma. That wasn't fun for a week after. Oh well, I'll find out.
Im really sorry to hear how its been going for you, coming off the Suboxone...
You probably have already mentioned this before (sorry- my memory is shot most of the time- LOL) but is the taper being done by your PCP or another Doc?
I just dont understand why they are tapering you down SO FAST! You could be alot more comfortable during this process-- IMO.
The "films" are great when it comes to weaning / tapering because you can cut them in two - four or even more- if you need to go even slower. This could be what you are doing anyway... right now... I dont know ( sorry memory) but I thought I would suggest it anyway. I wish you weren't having such a hard time!
I am sending you a ((HUGE HUG))
I don't recall if I mentioned it before, but the Soma (barbituate metabolites) is the only one that can be dangerous (or even fatal) to withdraw from...as is alcohol.
Actually I'm doing surprisingly well but I sure don't know what to expect Is some strange creature going to remove itself from my body?. I don't know.
I'm aware of my pain areas but the pain isn't feeling too intense. I'm doing this on the advice of the drug addiction psychiatrist that my primary doc sent me to ask if she'd consult with the surgeon when I have my surgery. She told me that the amount I'm taking shouldn't be an issue to just cut back a mg a day and that's what I'm doing. Only worry I have is that my surgery isn't until April 5 so I'm doing it myself a bit early. I'm just sick and tired of being mistreated or NOT treated by my pain doctors. I'm at their mercy but if I can survive without the Suboxone until I get to a good doctor I can say I'm hurting but not on that med.
I'm just giving it a try. Maybe the worse part will be a few days from now.

And are they detoxing you b/c you need surgery? I've been told that you cannot have surgery on suboxone b/c the opiod antagonist messes things up. I could be wrong, but if you're in pain and they're doing surgery, they'd want you off it. And unless they felt you were abusing it, I don't see why they need to take you off it. Do you feel that you're getting good treatment? Will your pain be controlled enough after the withdrawal? You do have a right, no matter what, to pain relief.
Good luck, hun, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Addiction Shrinks sometimes can't see the forest for the trees. Their whole practice is about addiction so they see it every where they look. I pray you're being treated well and that your detox goes well.
From what I hear, opiod withdrawal is like a bad case of the flu. Symptoms include nausea, diarrea, leg cramps, nasal drainage, chills and hot flashes- you name it. It sounds like the flu. But suboxone shouldn't be too difficult to get off of. They use it to take addicts or pain patients off other, stronger meds.
Be sure you keep in touch with your doctor and if your pain returns, you tell them! Those addiction shrinks don't believe in chronic pain so be careful. Don't let them tell you what THEY want to be true.
Good luck! :)
