Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Dear all,
First I want to thank you for all your advise and sharing your med experiences in reply to my last post! For those who asked, I have two bulging discs in my lower back and I just had a second laminectomy for the second disc after the surgeon convinced me this could fix me after I had a "relapse" after my first surgery for the first bulging disc. Well, the pain was worse after the second surgery. All I am on right now is neurontin and had my third epidural two days ago. By some miracle this third epidural really seemed to kick in today -the previous two seemed to do nothing- but last time I had them, the effect did not stick until the third one. I don't think the neurontin is doing anything - at least I did not feel a change since I started it. If I could stay like this, I would not take anything else, but there is a good chance I will not and it seems likely that I will relapse at some point and honestly I do not want to risk more steroid injections. The thing is, that although the percocet works wonders when the pain is relapse bad, it's only enough to allow me to do minimal activity, so I feel like if I relapse again, I will have to drop out of a job again and the thought of living like that for the rest of my life is pretty scary/ depressing to say the least. The thing I wonder about is lets say I managed to find a PM who was willing to treat me with opiods, should you even go on opiods during a relapse to dull the pain to the point you can go about your daily rountine since your body is clearly crying out "rest!" ?
Love and hugs

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Let me see if I understand you, are you afraid of using narcotics while your work? Or you do the kind of work that you can not be on any kind of drugs?
I really don't have the answer. I lost my job (I actually resign), because of chronic pain and 5 surgeries that left me walking with a cane, so I know how hard it is to loose a job because of health reasons. If that is what you are afraid of, I don't know what to tell you.
Everyone is different, and everyones pain is different, if you find a PM Doctor that will treat you with extended release medications, that will be best for you, since long acting meds you only need to take every 6 to 8 and sometimes 12 hours a day. You can keep your Percocet for break through pain, but that is only when the pain spikes and you need some instant relieve, other than that, I would not use Perc's.
Percocet contains Tylenol, and Acetaminophen has been proof to cause liver damage, so you might to ask your Doctor to give you a medication without Tylenol, so that way you can protect your liver.
I hope that this helps, take care and good luck with your search of a new pain Doc.
Hugs,
