Hi all,
I posted this in the PMS community but it is reeeeally slow moving so i only got a couple of replies, i though since this was such a big & fabulous community that some of you may be able to help :)
I am 21yrs old, and in the past 18 (going on 19)months i have only had my period 4 times. The last was 4months & 2wks ago.
I have talked/raised concern to my GP over this time about it, but he seems to think there is nothing wrong, and said that as i was never regular that i should not be concerned because he is not!
I used to have my period every 6wks or so, i know that there is ''irregular'' but surely 4 times in 18+mos is more than that. A few months i finally (after i was blue in the face!) got him to take bloods to get them checked out (this was the first time in my life by the way). Everything came back normal, except my thyroid which showed as abnormal, but he said that it was borderline, so still believed nothing was wrong.
Its so frustrating because its like he doesnt want to listen. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this? Or has any advice. I cannot see a gyno because i need to be reffered through my GP and he believes nothing is wrong so he will not do it. Oh, and im not pregnant either in case you were wondering! hehe.
Sorry for the loooong post, and for babling, any help you can give me, i would really appreciate.
Thank you so much! :) xox

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Try seeing another gp in your own practice first and if you still have no joy . . change practices altogether.
As for the period thing - can't help much cos I've never had them :0)
Good luck x Dee x
Anytime you hit the point of going three months without your period you're considered to be in amenorrhea.
It is important to do something about it. When you miss your period for extended time periods, the lack of estrogen causes less calcium to be absorbed into your bones. Also, there is an increased risk for infertility. (Yes, you're getting your period, but you want to be having your period minimum of four times a year).
Get a referral to a gynecologist. They might be able to prescribe you birth control to start your cycle up again (which might be the only kick your system needs.)
AS for birth control, im not sure that will be possible, i have been told before that they dont want me totake it because it could possibly make the migraines i suffer from last for longer & make them more severe.
It just worries me, im not sure if i will ever have children, but i would like to have the option.
Im seriously thinking of using the fact ive not had my period for 4.5mos as an excuse for choking my GP when i see him next week! :)
Thanks again for all your advice, i really appreciate you all taking the time to reply.
You really should see one.
Ouch

There are three possibilities. It could make the migraines worse, it could do nothing, or...it could make them better.
The bigger issue with it making it worse, is that migraines already carry a stroke risk with them, and birth control increases that.
I was told that before I consider getting pregnant, I should try going on the pill just so I know what I'm going to be in for, in regard to having to manage pain without medications.
