Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Ouch
Please feel free to contact me, I've lived w/MPS for about 20 years. I don't claim to know everything about it, no way! :o) But I do follow research & try to learn as much as possible.
When I was in spasm, the thing that helped me most was freezing water in a smalll styrofoam cup, tearing the bottom out of it and applying the ice for 15 minutes and then heat for 15 minutes (for this I used a tube sock with white rice in it for moist heat) My Doc told me that it confuses the muscles out of spasm. Worked well. I also got a freezing spray treatment that did better than anything.
Contact me if you wish!
Hope this helped!
I strongly recommend the book "Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain, A Survival Manual," 2nd edition, by Devin Starlanyl & Mary Ellen Copeland. I recommend the 2nd edition b/c it has a lot more info on CMP.
(I have no financial interest in the book., etc.)
There is a HUGE difference Btween the tender points of FM and the trigger points of MPS/CMP. My hands will give out B4 I can type the whole explanation, but one good example, is on pg. 33. It says..."If you have only FMS, you are not going to find hard lumps and bumps and ropy bands in your muscles. Those are part of the TrPs that characterize CMP."
From personal experience usually (but not always!), if you apply pressure to a TrP the pain will travel to a different location on your body. The pain can be constant or sporadic, mediocre to utterly excruciating. The muscles can be in a permanently shortened, constricted state.
With FM, exercise can be helpful, w/CMP/MPS it can cause a lot of damage if you work a TrP laden muscle.
Gentle hugs, & may you find relief soon.
I have alot of lumps I can myself actually FEEL on my legs...who do I see to find out about that diagnosis ?/.and what are the treatment options ??
