From time to time, there are discussion post, people fearing, or questioning their medication. I found this on a medical web site and thought it may be of interest.
Perhaps, it just might reduce some fears. It is about the weaning off of medications; however it addresses the issue of medical vs addicted use of drugs.--------
There are many ways to wean off of medications. Generally, if you have time, gradually lowering the dosage of the drugs is the easiest.

Rehabilitation centers tend to focus on people who are taking the medication because they have a craving for the opioids, where they give up social activities because of the opioid use and center their life around getting the drugs rehabilitation centers focus on people who are addicted.
As a rule, people who are taking the opioids for a medical reason don't need to go to rehabilitation centers to get off the opioids. If they do, it is because they find the withdrawal symptoms to be a problem rather than that they need the support to control any desire to keep taking the medications.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I am sick and tired of people warning me of becoming addicted to oxycontin and telling me not to "take too much or take it for too long."
I take the prescribed amount per day. And for those days when the prescribed amount still leaves me unable to do anything but writhe and scream in agony, I don't take more.
I don't "borrow" from the next day's dose. Because that would leave without enough for that day.
And I have no intention to **EVER** stop taking oxycontin.
This group is called Chronic Pain. By definition that means Long Term. Not Going Away. Will Stay With You.
Why would I want to stop taking an opiod? Why should I even consider it?
Why should anyone that suffers Pain on a long term basis?
Most of us get tired of the questions, warning and general misinformation about the medications we do or do not take. The last two paragraphs state a medical opinion of the difference between the two.
In essence, people with chronic pain take medications because they have to to control pain, not because they want to get high or misuse the drugs. Hey, I am on your side, I know why you take them.
